Charting a new course for Manchester’s  Schools.

This is Jim’s plan to bring dramatic change to the public schools in our city

Students and Teachers first

The Manchester School District covers 22 schools, almost 15,000 students, and over 2,000 teachers and staff. Our schools have been under a long-term attack by ideologically driven politicians who are more committed to their own careers than they are to the students, teachers and families of Manchester. Jim has been an out spoken advocate for our schools for more than a decade. With Jim at city hall, our schools will have a strong voice defending their interests.

Innovation and Creative Thinking

Jim understands that great education systems are dynamic and innovative. Manchester’s schools are full of enthusiastic students. As a former member of Manchester Proud Community Planning Group, Jim is supportive of new ideas and innovation in our schools. He is conscious that this will require investment and the commitment of resources to our schools.

Great Public Schools

Families deserve access to great public schools. For too long our schools have suffered from insufficient resources. Manchester is the largest and proudest city in the state of New Hampshire. Our diversity and resilience are our greatest assets. Jim will work everyday to fight against the down-shifting of costs from the state government to local taxpayers. When Manchester elected officials go up to Concord and vote to decrease funding to our schools then Jim will hold them accountable for their actions. He will work to put all our schools on a path to excellence.

Support Our Teachers and Staff

We need to overhaul the District’s policies to better support our educators. Jim will work bring high-performing teachers to teach in the schools that need them most. He will also advocate to give teachers the training and support they need to become the best educator they can be. He will fight to recruit and retain highly effective teachers.

Accountability and Civility on our Board of School Committee

The time has come for a new era of accountability and civility for our public officials. For too long, parents, students, and taxpayers have been forced to watch the antics and grandstanding of small minded and petty individuals at city hall. Jim believes that the school board is an oversight committee that should concern itself with policy issues and the long term health of our school system. He is committed to calling out those who denigrate and belittle our public employees and set themselves up as mini education experts. He believes that the BoSC should agree metrics and establish goals and targets for our schools and then allow our professionals to get on with the work of teaching our children.
